Southwest Nigerian tertiary institutions receive substantial allocations through TETFund, NELFUND, and state budgets — yet students continue to endure dilapidated hostels, unsafe campuses, unaccredited programmes and opaque financial management.

The gap between government investment claims and campus reality is stark. SEASWT 2026 exists to measure, document and close that gap through evidence-based accountability.

Vision & Mission

Vision

A Southwest Nigerian tertiary education sector where public investment is transparently deployed, student welfare is non-negotiable, and institutions are held accountable by data — not just rhetoric.

Mission

To conduct a rigorous, evidence-based accountability tour across 6 states, assess 36+ institutions on 8 standardised categories, engage stakeholders, and publish the Southwest Education Accountability Report 2026.

Track & Verify

Dispatch Freedom of Information requests to institutions and government agencies. Cross-reference official claims with on-ground evidence gathered by our field teams and public submissions.

Engage & Dialogue

Convene structured stakeholder roundtables in each state — bringing together school management, student union leaders, government officials, CSOs and media to respond to preliminary findings.

Evaluate Campus Reality

Physically visit every institution — audit hostels, laboratories, libraries, water and electricity supply, security infrastructure. Score each institution on the 8-category SEASWT Index.

Produce & Launch

What We Aim To Achieve

Key Objectives

  2. 02 Assess the physical conditions of hostels, lecture halls, laboratories, and welfare facilities through direct campus visits.
  3. 03 Document and score each institution across 8 standardised categories to produce comparable, objective accountability data.
  4. 04 Facilitate stakeholder roundtable dialogues to create platforms for accountability and institutional response.
  5. 05 Produce and launch the Southwest Education Accountability Report 2026.
  6. 06 Amplify students' voices through a structured, multi-channel campaign that maintains public pressure for improvements.

Excellent 85–100 pts Performing well across all categories.
Good 70–84 pts Strong performance with some improvement areas.
Average 55–69 pts Meeting minimum standards — more work needed.
Needs Improvement 40–54 pts Systemic failures — urgent attention required.
